PATHWAYS IN ART

LAMASSU
(human headed winged-bull -
Neo-Assyrian, 722 - 705 BC)

At over 14 feet tall these winged figures once flanked the opening to temples of Assyrian Kings. A sign of power and warning to all who enter..."beyond this point you are among Gods."

KAAYAPO Indians
( Brazil, South America)

The Kaayapo Indians inhabit one of the most precious bio-rich territories on earth. Having remained nearly undiscovered and uniquely surviving modern influence for much of the twentieth century.

TRABUM
(Wood Sculpture, 1977 - Artist, Carl Andre)

Minimalism. The first art style to be considered truely American, as its originators where mostly NY based artists. Carl Andre and other American artists introduced to the world an aesthetic which emphasized a rigorous conceptual framework, often rooted in the language of geometry and mathamatics.

DOUBLE ELVIS
(Screen Prints, 1977 - Artist, Andy Warhol)

Pop Art. Known for radically re-orienting the focus of Modern art in the post-war twentieth century, away from material emphasis and pure abstraction towards the language of food packaging, advertising and spectator iconography. Andy Warhol's style of visual art reflected the prevalence of popular culture as "cool", near literal mythology.

THE MORGUE, hacked to death 2
(Photography, 1992 - Artist, Andres Serano)

THE VISITATION
(Oil Painting, 1528 - Artist, Jacopo Pontormo)
